Our Supporters

The Trust has relationships with a number of groups and agencies as listed below.

Southland District Councils Logo

The Trust currently has a relationship with the Southland District Council as the landowner of Mores Reserve. This relationship was formalised by way of a Memorandum of Understanding put in place in November 2021. Our Management Plan sets out the responsibilities of each party and is subject to annual review. The Council also owns other areas within the Riverton area.

Environment Southlands logo

The Trust has a relationship with Environment Southland, principally for the provision of technical advice and pest monitoring. (Environment Southland is contracted by the Southland District Council to carry out pest monitoring in Mores Reserve). This relationship was formalised by way of a Memorandum of Understanding in February 2023.

An annual funding allocation is granted by Environment Southland, to cover the costs of our ongoing pest management tasks.

ÅŒraka-Aparima RÅ«naka

Riverton and the surrounding area are within the ÅŒraka-Aparima rohe (area of interest). The Trust recognises the need to develop a working relationship with the RÅ«naka and will work with the RÅ«naka to achieve this. The RÅ«naka own land or administer land on behalf of other owners within the Trust’s area of operation. A Memorandum of Understanding between the Trust and the RÅ«naka was formalised in March 2023.

Riverton Community

Most of the Trust’s volunteers reside in or have property in the Riverton area. As the Trust’s operations expand more volunteers will be needed.

Expanding the Trust’s operations beyond Mores Reserve will need the support of the community. To achieve this the Trust will need to keep the community informed of what we are trying to achieve and how we plan to do that. Getting the wider community involved will raise the profile of the Trust’s work and get more people directly involved with that work.

Aotearoa Gaming Trusts logo

For one off projects, the trust applies for funding by providing an exact description and costing. We are thankful for the funding already received from Aotearoa Gaming Trust to assist our operations.

Simplicity Foundation

Contacted by Trustee Roger Baillie, Simplicity Foundation allocated a lump sum to be used for our ongoing operations. Thanks to Roger for his efforts, and thanks to Simplicity for trusting us to make good use of their funding.

Special Thanks

The Men’s Shed

Pankhurst Sawmill

A big thank you to Pankhurst for assisting us by donating timber for the construction of some traps.

Phillipa Dobson-Brown

Thanks Phillipa for those stunning photos of the three Keruru at the South viewing platform of Mores Reserve.

A keen bird watcher, environmentalist and talented photographer, Lloyd is the owner of most of the great bird shots on our website, kindly gifted to us. Lloyd is also reporting to us on the vibrant birdlife in Mores Reserve and gives us much appreciated encouragement by noting the positive impact of our work. Good to hear that our efforts make a difference.

All our Trustees and Volunteers

Thank you so much for your ongoing commitment to fostering birdlife not just throughout Mores Reserve but also in the whole Riverton area and for all to enjoy! No one would ever say they can live without bird songs in the morning, let’s make sure our forests don’t go silent.
